Her Ladyship Justice Sedinam Awo Kwadam breaks down her journey in a chat with Alexis Laura

For an individual who didn’t have any lawyers in her family to inspire or guide her, it’s safe to say Her Ladyship Justice Sedinam Awo Kwadam has definitely left her exemplary mark on the noble profession! In an exclusive interview with Alexis Laura as part of her Women In Law series on YouTube, she shed more light on her interesting path to the bench and beyond.

Just how did Her Ladyship Sedinam Awo Kwadam get to practice law? And what notes can we take from the interview?

The alumnus of Achimota School tried her hands at Biomedical Science at the University of Ghana, Legon, before switching and being placed in the same class with her brother, which saw them both being called to the bar together. This is her bedrock for encouraging everyone, regardless of their background, to switch careers whenever they feel there’s something better for them. Her Ladyship also advises staying focused, even when you have doubts, pointing out that questioning yourself or doubting is a natural phenomenon.

She also stressed that nothing indicates someone will be a great lawyer, as people evolve. Her ladyship also encourages people to allow themselves to grow, as well as to adopt a mindset that enables them to appreciate endless possibilities. Her final piece of advice was to encourage individuals to never stop learning, irrespective of what they are learning.
