Sports Entrepreneur Eric Darko officially recognized at Fortyunder40 awards!
Ghanaian sports entrepreneur Eric Darko was part of a distinguished group of people who were formally recognised for their amazing works in their respective fields at the 9th edition of the Forty Under 40 awards this weekend!
What are the Forty Under 40 awards? Well, Jamie says…
The Forty under 40 Awards is a prestigious event which seeks to identify, honour and celebrate a cross-section of the nation’s most influential and accomplished young business leaders under the age of forty from a wide range of industries who are committed to business growth, professional excellence and community service.
This year’s event was held at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra. Other noteworthy winners from the event include, but are not limited to, Joseph Adjei, under the Digital and Media category due to the incredible exploits of his BlacVolta brand, and Jeffrey Nortey, who was duly acknowledged for his relentless desire to promote the creative arts in Ghana! And who is Eric Darko?
Eric Darko, also affectionately known by his students as “Coach Eric”, is an accomplished coach who began his coaching journey as an assistant basketball coach at Presbyterian Boys Secondary School in Legon.
The Adisadel College and University of Education, Winneba, alumnus then co-founded the Cedar Oak Basketball Academy (COBA) alongside Coach Albert Ato Sam and Coach Benjamin Nkansah Antwi.
Most recently, Mr. Darko led the COBA Girls to victory in the COBA Fourth Anniversary Tournament. He has also organised various basketball camps for different age groups and has trained some of the nation’s most talented basketball players.

His coaching accomplishments include consecutive interschool basketball competition victories at Presbyterian Boys Secondary School in 2011 and 2012, a second-place finish at the Sprite Ball Basketball Championship in 2014, and another second-place finish at the Elite U16 Tournament in 2023 held in Jamestown.
His commitment and expertise have established him as one of the most sought-after coaches in Ghana. Eric Darko holds a Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Basketball Coaching from the International Basketball University in Lithuania, with some of his other coaching accomplishments being consecutive interschool basketball competition victories at Presbyterian Boys Secondary School in 2011 and 2012, a second-place finish at the Sprite Ball Basketball Championship in 2014, and another second-place finish at the Elite U16 Tournament in 2023 held in Jamestown. His commitment and expertise have established him as one of the most sought-after coaches in Ghana.
