Microsoft & ASUS launch the ROG XBox Ally handheld gaming device

Tech giants Microsoft have, after teaming up with electronic device manufacturer ASUS, launched their flagship handheld gaming device, the ROG Xbox Ally on the 16th of October 2025!

What should gamers expect from the launch of the ROG XBox Ally? Well…Jamie says!!!

From early indications, the device is basically a handheld version of your favourite XBox console. It’s also a significant upgrade on its cousin, the ROG Ally, which launched in 2023. With two versions, the traditional ROG XBox Ally (16GB RAM and 512 GB memory going for £499) and the premium ROG XBox Ally X (24GB RAM and 1TB memory going for £799) both coming with effortless syncing of your progress online, as well as access to an aggregated library of games, the full screen Xbox-gaming experience and a game bar for easy access to essential tools and widgets, we wait to see how well this console holds up against both the Nintendo Switch 2 and the PlayStation Portal!

Both handheld devices will run on the Windows 11 OS (naturally) and possess the AMD Ryzen Z2 A (Z2 A extreme for the Ally X) processor to allow gamers to enjoy the best experiences while playing their favourite games. Speaking of which, the devices will be able to play not just XBox games, but essentially any game that was made for PC as well.
